Food Recovery Initiatives

Food Recovery Initiatives

To prevent the waste of edible food, UCSF Health participates in food recovery initiatives, helping food get to those in need for free or at an affordable price.

Food 4 UCSF students

The Food 4 UCSF students app texts students letting them know where excess food from catered events is. This prevents catered meals from going to waste, and helps students get free meals.

Budget Bites

Budget Bites

Budget Bites is a UCSF Health program that packages and chills leftover meals from the dining areas as a reheat-able grab and go option at an affordable price. All meals are $4.50 regardless of the contents.

Replate

Replate donates meals to nonprofits who serve communities facing food insecurity. Replate picks up extra meals from the UCSF Health kitchens and delivers them to those in need, preventing food meals from going to waste.
